Come for a few days or a week and explore  our adventure filled High Country Victoria, Australia.

With Mansfield located in the valley beneath Mt Buller just a 2 – 2.5 hour drive from Melbourne it is fast becoming well known for its local produce, wineries and cafes. Many talented artists and musicians performing at  local venues and making our High Country their home.

Ah the serenity !! Peppin Point cottage overlooks  the shores of Lake Eildon, just 10km from the centre Bonnie Doon, home of the Castle – Australia’s Number 1 most popular movie.

Historic gold mining towns of Jamieson, Gaffneys Creek , Woods Point and Strathbogie Ranges just to mention a few. Craigs Hut -  Man from Snowy River country, Lake Nillahcootie, Delatite River, Howqua Valley and Ned Kelly history through to the King Valley are all here.

There are so many beautiful days, north of the divide. Perfect for a picnic at the weir or national parks. Water or snow skiing, it’s all here. Dine out, or have a hearty home cooked dinner and just sit by the cozy fire. Travel home  at your leisure while taking in some of the local attractions.

Population grows to 7893 residents   Extra 702 people,a sign of healthy growth     

LATEST Census data confirms that Mansfield Shire is a desired place to live for retirees, but also younger families.

Almost 500 more Mansfield Shire residents have entered the “retiree age” bracket since the 2006 Census.

An extra 485 people are over 55 years old, according to the 2011 Census released last week, but statistics show a good age mix across the local population.

Census data shows a rise in population of 702 people (9.7 per cent) from 7191 to 7893 over the five year period.

This is higher than the 8.5 per cent Victorian increase.

The 60-64 year age group was the shire’s biggest, 8.9 per cent of the population (700 people), a major difference to the statewide figure of only 5.5 per cent.

There’s an even spread across age groups, with 2307 members of the shire’s population aged from 0-24 years, 2780 aged 25-54, and 2804 over 55 years old.
